Client: Missouri Department of Transportation (MoDOT) Location: St. Charles County, Missouri
TSi provided geotechnical engineering services for the design and construction of the 10-mile westward extension of Route 364. TSi services included drilling, sampling, lab testing, engineering assessments, and design recommendations for bridge foundations, retaining walls, culvert crossings, slopes, and earthwork considerations. The project involved new roadway, eleven bridges for roadway crossings, six bridges for river and creek crossings, new culverts, and four interchanges that included cloverleaf, traditional, and flyover ramps.
Route 109 Widening Improvements
Client: Missouri Department of Transportation (MoDOT) Location: Wildwood. Missouri
TSi performed a geotechnical study for this project, consisting of new pavement, resurfacing of existing pavement and accommodations for a new 12-foot wide median, two lanes in each direction, and turn lanes at selected intersections.
Also included were two below-grade pedestrian crossings, pedestrian bridge, and a one-acre retention pond. TSi completed 19 borings and a laboratory test program. A final report was prepared giving recommendations for geotechnical parameters to be used in the design of the roadway and the box culverts.
MO Highway 10 Bridge Replacements
Client: Missouri Department of Transportation (MODot) Location: Excelsior Springs, Missouri
TSi provided drilling, lab testing, and geotechnical services and a final report for the replacement of two bridges, 1000 feet apart, on Hwy 10 over Fishing River and Marietta Street in Excelsior Springs. Bridge K-307 is 317 feet long and has seven bents as well as a MSE retaining wall around east abutment. Bridge K-363 is 336 feet long and has four bents. TSi’s report includes recommendations for bent foundations, MSE wall recommendations, settlement, lateral earth pressures and slope stability calculations.
Christopher S. Bond Bridge/Paseo Bridge Design
Client: Missouri Department of Transportation (MoDOT) Location: Kansas City, Missouri
TSi, as a subconsultant to another geotechnical engineering firm, provided geotechnical engineering and field geology services for the kcICON project, replacing the Paseo Bridge, which carries I-35 and I-29 traffic over the Missouri River with the cable-stay Christopher S. Bond Bridge. The project also included approximately five miles of I-29/I-35 improvements, including upgrading to six lanes from north of the Route 210/Armour Road interchange to Independence Avenue. It also adds a southbound lane from the northeast corner of the Central Business District loop to Oak Street. TSi’s field services included logging borings and geotechnical analysis for several aspects of the project.
New I-64 Design-Build Project
Client: Missouri Department of Transportation (MoDOT) Location: City of St. Louis and St. Louis County, Missouri
TSi was part of the design-build team for eight miles of I-64 reconstruction from Kingshighway Avenue to McKnight Road, including pavement widening and replacement of all bridge overpasses. TSi’s construction observation and testing services included observation of drilledpier foundations, MSE wall construction, soil improvement using rammed aggregate piers, concrete quality assurance testing of pavement materials, and laboratory testing of rock and soil. TSi performed a geotechnical study that included utility clearance, boring layout, collecting samples and preparing boring logs. TSi also performed pavement cores to determine thickness and condition, assisted in engineering analyses and reports, and settlement calculations then supervised installation of stone trenches for support of retaining walls where excessive settlement was a concern.
Missouri Safe and Sound Program Bridge Improvements
Client: Missouri Department of Transportation (MoDOT) Location: Statewide, Missouri
The $685 million Safe & Sound Bridge Improvement Program, the biggest bridge program in Missouri history, resulted in 802 new or improved bridges in less than four years. TSi provided geotechnical engineering support services as a member of the design-build team, contracted with the complete replacement of 554 bridges throughout Missouri on a fast-track schedule. TSi’s engineering support included analysis and design of bridge foundations, abutments, slopes, retaining walls and earthwork.
Route 69 Bridge Replacements
Client: Missouri Department of Transportation (MoDOT) Location: Platte County, Missouri
MoDOT in cooperation with the Kansas Department of Transportation and the Federal Highway Administration will replace the US 69 Bridges over the Missouri River between Platte County, MO and Wyandotte, KS. The southbound bridge, known as Fairfax Bridge, was built in 1933. The northbound bridge, Platte Purchase Bridge, was built in 1957. Both were built to accommodate the size and weight of vehicles at the time of construction, and not for today’s high volume and heavy weight limits of truck traffic within the heavy industrial zone where these bridges are located. TSi provided drilling services as a subcontractor to a geotechnical subconsultant. Estimated completion.
